There’s nothing quite as freeing as getting a short hairstyle–especially in the summer months. But looking like a boy? No thank you! Read on to see how you can save time dressing your tresses in the morning while looking and feeling more feminine than ever.

Instructions

1**Determine The Length of Your Short Hairstyle**

Lots of sources on the Web will tell you that short girls should have shorter hair and that taller women should have longer hair. Not necessarily so. Personality and facial features seem to match certain styles and not others. Ask your friends for advice, take it into consideration and then go with the length that you feel the most comfortable with. If femininity is still your aim, avoid super short hairstyles.

2**Find Pictures**

Browse the Web and find images of hairstyles you like. Print a few out and take them to your stylist. If you’re a spontaneous type of person, you can also browse through the hairstyle books in the salon while waiting for your appointment.

3**Consult Your Stylist**

No one knows what works and what doesn’t better than your stylist. Be open with your stylist describing in as many words possible what you want. Even if it doesn’t sound like it makes sense to you, just say it. The more he or she can get the sense of where you’re coming from, the most satisfied you’ll be.

4**Trust Your Stylist**

If this is a drastic change from what you’re used to, be especially sure you are going to a reputable salon. Places like Great Clips often encourage their stylists to keep within a certain time limit for haircuts, and you want to make sure you get the attention you’re paying for. A good stylist can take your facial features, your hair type (fine, wavy, thick, etc.)into consideration along with your description and come up with a great solution.

5**Take the Femininity Test For Short Hair**

A good test to see how feminine your style can be is to run your fingers through your hair.

Can you tousle it?
Pouf it up with rollers or a blow-dryer?
Style it in more than one way?
If you can tuck your hair behind your ears, can you still see some hair from the back of your ear lobes?

***** Have Fun *****

After your short hairstyle comes the fun part–playing with it! Try accessorizing it with barrettes on the side, or don a headband. Add some root volumizer and tousle it with your fingers. Try the sleek look with some gel. So many looks, so little time!
